Just released: Mockups 1.1

About a month after the first release, I have just released version 1.1 of Balsamiq Mockups, both for Desktop and for Confluence.

This free upgrade is packed with new goodies and powerful features, as well as numerous bug fixes and performance improvements.

Some highlights:

  • 7 new control types: Tooltips, Callouts, Curly braces, Scratch-out, Big Red X and Vertical Rule
  • A new "lock" feature, as well as the ability to hide the notebook in the background
  • Support for non-western characters via the "Use System Fonts" command
  • Balsamiq for Desktop now lets you open multiple mockups at once, and even copy and paste between them
  • Native menus and lots of OS-specifict keyboard shortcuts (Desktop version)
  • an improved Import flow which makes creating mockup variations a breeze
  • 11 new icons
  • ...and much much more. Head over to the Balsamiq blog for a more detailed list, with pictures! :)

BALSAMIQ STUDIOS LLC: PROFITABLE in 3 weeks

Exactly three weeks after launch Balsamiq Studios became profitable.

Disclaimer: I am not counting my time as a cost, yet — it's a labor of love after all ;)

I shared some numbers on the Balsamiq blog for the occasion and the post attracted a lot of attention (especially from the smart guys at Hacker News), which doesn't hurt.

Sales have not slowed down since the post, so it looks like Balsamiq is here to stay for a while! :)

WHAT's NEXT on my list

I am going to focus on the Confluence version for a little while. I want to make it possible for users to add mockups to a page's comments (a first for Confluence plugins!), and change the licensing scheme so that your license of Mockups will no longer have to match your Confluence's license (the code to enforce this is a bit tricky).

After that, back to the JIRA version and I'll start work on the feature everyone has been asking for: image upload.

A Question For you

To wrap it up, I have a question for you: why did you subscribe to this newsletter? Are you waiting for something in particular? I am constantly rearranging my priority list based on user's feedback, so don't be shy! :)

Knowing what you're interested in will also help me write better newsletters in the future.

In the meantime I suggest you follow Balsamiq's progress on the Balsamiq Blog or via Twitter.

Have a fantastic day! :)
